As I lay on the red shag carpet of my grandmother’s ‘TV room’ (You know, those rooms used to exist), I lay watching music video with my older sister. My grandmother had the kind of big back TV that sat on the floor and you had to get up to change the channel. I had just moved back to the United States and was being introduced to Hip Hop at a rapid level. On the screen, a man I never seen before rockin braids and blue sweat suit singing, “Rollout,” grabbed my attention. I sat straight up and asked, “who is that?” My sister replied, “Ludacris.” The way my eyes lit up from the sight of him is something you’d think I’d be ashamed as such a young age. I loved his playful charisma and the video was simply enticing.

I can remember a few years later asking my mother for Christmas the Back For the First Time album. Although full of derogatory language, she got it for me. I played it so much, it still is one of my favorite albums to this day. And What’s Your Fantasy is a track that must get played at least once at every black BBQ.
Ludacris today is not has popular as he was in the early 2000’s but he sure did bring the fun to Hip Hop. With his ridiculous costumes and catchy hooks, Ludacris surly helped shape Hip Hop and will go down in history as one of the best to do it. Albums like Back For the First Time, Word Of Mouf and Chicken-n-Beer are sure classics that won’t be forgotten.
