Let us dive straight into the production. The beat selection I believe is what grabs the listener right out the gate. Intro track, 02.02.99 produced by DJ Skelz and Rocco Roy is probably one of my favorites while Twisting Fingers produced by Bankroll Got it, Ben10k and Danes Blood was the first song to get me to listen to the album in the first place. But each songs offers a variety of Texas sound that will for sure leave your head boppin’ and feeling like summer.
This being my first go around with OT, I found it to be a refreshing reminder of the Texas sound. There are a number Texan MC’s but none seem to give us that taste of that down south feel. Not quite a UGK or Too Short style, but similar? He even features some of the rappers we grew up listening to. And when I say grew up, I mean us 30+ year olds. Paul Wall, Z-Ro, Slim Thug. All staples of the Houston era. The album art is a simple blank CD with the track list written across it. Also another reminder of a past time. At only 25 years old, Mexican OT pays beautiful homage to those before him and the culture of rap music. It is appreciated.

Sonically, he has the perfect tone of voice. The way he rolls his R’s and D’s are enticing and his lyrics are not too heavy, where we can simply enjoy a night out with friends and a few drinks. I like that he addresses that fact that people say he sounds like Da Baby or Kevin Gates stating, “these fools ain’t got no flow like me.” Which I agree. Each song gives us a different flow and keeps the album fresh. I don’t find it to be an attack on either artist just a friendly reminder he is his own individual.
Although, I find the album to be good and worth a listen. I did not fall in love with it. I also did not listen to anything else before this. Simply because this is my first time hearing of the rapper and I guess it didn’t grab me enough to want to hear his past music. Even though I did read Lonestar Luchador is better. Maybe I will take a listen, maybe not.
