Hip-Hop/Rap

#1. Nas -Kings Disease 2

When you hear sequel, sometimes it can mean disaster. But not for the thirty-year veteran, Nas. Nas went into his bag last year with Kings Disease and released an even better album than the first. This educated albums promotes wealth and self-love in a way not done by most. Hit Boy and Nas are the perfect combination and cannot wait for KD3.

We must mention the album Magic. Perfect.

#2. J. Cole – The Off-Season

Earlier this year, The Juke Joint reviewed this work of art and since then the album has gone platinum and is already on its way to age beautifully. Cole is to never let down when it comes to making music and this album is no different.

#3. Tyler, The Creator – Call Me If You Get Lost

Tyler, The Creator, truly is the creator he calls himself. This album displayed an outstanding display of beats and sonically this album is everything we all long for when it comes to music.

#4. Lute – Gold Mouf

The Dreamville artist released his sophomore album with the intent to give you something to play for years to come. Next to Bas, Lute may be the best artist from the Dreamville team.

#5. Bobby Session – Manifest

Who is Bobby Sessions? This activist artist dissects political issues and talks manifestation in a way that can inspire just about anyone who listens to the project.

R&B/Soul

#1. H.E.R – Back of My Mind

H.E.R aka Gabby is probably the best female artist out right now. She writes, produces and engineers her own music. She one of the most sought after female artist today and continues to grow with each mixtape. Back Of My Mind is H.E.R’s technical first studio album and hit on every level possible.

#2. Leon Bridges - Gold Diggers Sound

The Fort Worth, Texan dropped his best album yet. Leon Bridges puts a twist on R&B music today by infusing it with the R&B from yesterday and it is done so beautifully. If you do not know who Leon Bridges is by now, you should. And this is the best album to start.

#3. Pink Sweat$ - Pink Planet

Prior to Pink Planet, I don’t think many knew too much about Pink Sweat$. But this album took on the new age R$B sound and demolished it.

#4. Sevyn Streeter – Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz

Next to H.E.R, Sevyn Streeter is probably one of the best song writers the music industry has ever see. Although, she may not be the biggest star, she is always working behind the scenes. Writing music for artist like Chris Brown, Usher and Ariana Grande to name a few. Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz displays her wonderful writing talent on each song.

#5. Jazmine Sullivan – Heaux Tales

Sullivan is probably one of the best vocalists the world has ever seen. Although it had been six years since the R&B Queen has released a new album, she took her time with this album and spoke on behalf of all women sharing Heaux Tales. Beautiful play on words.

Rock/Alternative

#1. Foo Fighters – Medicine at Midnight

The legendary Foo Fighters released their tenth studio album. David Grolh’s legendary voice continues to feed our appetite for Rock music.

#2. Kings of Leon – When You See Yourself

Oh, The Kings of Leon. Just their name along brings smiles to alternative/rock fans. Lead vocalist Caleb Followill will always have one of the most beautiful and unique voices in rock.

#3. Evanescense – The Bitter Truth

Speaking of great voices in rock, Amy Lee has one of the most recognizable vocals we hear in Rock today. The Bitter Truth gives us all the feels of genuine Rock.

#4. The Black Keys – Delta Kream

This Akron, Ohio native band released an albums southern style rock album. You can just sit back and relax to sounds of smooth rock.

#5. Willow Smith – Lately I feel Everything

Willow released her first alternative album this year and the fans ate it up. Similar to MGK, its like the fans were waiting for a full alternative album that could tap into her true talents.
